Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens starred for England as they won their opening game of the Hong Kong sixes tournament.

Playing Bangladesh, England won the toss and elected to bowl first with Stevens over going for just ten runs in the five over slogathon.

England skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown picked up two wickets as Bangladesh posted 81 for 2 in their five overs.

However, the target was within the reach of England as Stevens led the charge hitting an incredible 35 off just 10 balls in a knock that included three sixes and four fours.

Having reached over thirty, Stevens was forced to retire out to allow other batsmen to have a knock and in the end it was down to Rikki Clarke and Chris Read to see the side home with a ball to spare.

England’s victory sets them up nicely ahead of their two fixtures on Saturday against Ireland and Australia with the the Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final all to be played on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Stevens had taken part in a game between the Hong Kong Woodworm All Stars and the Rest of the World side.

The Kent man batted at number four for the latter, smashing a staggering 105 off just 35 balls, including eight fours and eleven sixes as the Rest of the World side amassed 368 for 6 off their twenty overs.

Despite looking a winning score, the All Stars won by four runs with a ball to spare after New Zealander Lou Vincent hit 121 not out off just 33 balls.
